Until I get more book reviews up on the website, here is a bibliography to start with. Meik Skoss compiled the list. He is a contemporary of Donn F. Draeger accompanying him on several trips to Southeast Asia. Skoss has studied aikido, jodi, naginata, judo, karate among others. If anyone has read any of these books and wants to submit a review to go on the Mossy Creek Dojo website just drop me an email. In the meantime, use this bibliography as a start to which books you can read to further understand budo.
I have read the quite a few of the books on the list and in time I may get to post my own review of them here. I think I may read the Kyudo book Skoss recommends next. “Kyudo: The Essence & Practice of Japanese Archery, by Hideharu Onuma, with Dan and Jackie DeProspero, is THE definitive text. It’s perhaps the very best martial arts book I’ve seen and I’m not even very interested in kyudo. It is well written, well designed, with superb photographs and diagrams. All books should be this good.” Wow, what a great endorsement for a book. Now if you are not on the mat, get to reading.
